What Is Cerluten? A Science-Based Guide to the A-5 Nervous System Bioregulator
The short answer
Cerluten is a dietary supplement made of short chain peptides from the brain tissue of young animals. Its code is peptide complex A-5. It belongs to the Khavinson line of peptide bioregulators, built at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Each capsule holds 10 mg of active peptide. Most people take 2 capsules a day with food for 30 days. Cerluten may support brain function, focus, and memory as you age.*

What Cerluten is, and what it is not
Cerluten is the brain peptide bioregulator in the Khavinson range. It is made for the central nervous system. The peptides come from cerebral cortex tissue of young animals. They are cleaned so only the small peptide part is left. Larger proteins, fats, and DNA are removed.
It is a dietary supplement, and it is not a stimulant. You will not feel a buzz an hour after you take it. Think of it as cellular support for brain tissue, used in courses.
The "A-5" is not marketing. Every Khavinson bioregulator has an A-number tied to one tissue. A-5 is brain. A-3 is blood vessels. A-7 is liver. If you want the full map, read our guide on how to read the Khavinson A-number system.

Natural peptides vs synthetic peptides
Khavinson's work led to two kinds of products. Natural peptide bioregulators come from extracting peptides from animal tissues. These are called Cytomaxes. Synthesized peptides are lab built copies of a few short sequences found in those extracts. Those synthetic peptides are called Cytogens.
Cerluten is a Cytomax. It is a whole peptide complex, not one lab made sequence. That is the original form of these natural peptides.

Where Cerluten comes from
Professor Vladimir Khavinson started this work in the 1970s. His team at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology studied one idea for decades. Each organ in the human body has its own set of short peptides. The body naturally produces them. Khavinson's theory is that levels drop as we age. So giving a tissue its own specific peptides may help its cells keep up healthy function.
That idea became a full line, one peptide per organ. There is one for the thyroid gland, one for the liver, one for blood vessels, and more. The institute's group has put out more than 700 papers on peptide regulation. Cerluten is the one aimed at the brain.
How brain peptides work
Most brain supplements act fast and fade fast. Caffeine is a good example. Many compounds work by hitting cell surface receptors from the outside. Traditional peptide signals work that way too. The effect lasts a few hours, then it is gone.
Bioregulators work on a slower track. Many of the short peptides studied are just 2 to 4 amino acids long. That small size may let them get through the digestive system and into cells. A 2022 review found special carrier proteins may move these tiny peptides into cells [2]. How peptides cross the blood brain barrier is still being studied.
Researchers think bioregulators pass through cell membranes and act on gene expression more directly. The leading theory is epigenetic gene regulation.
Once inside, modeling studies from Khavinson's group suggest short peptides can bind specific DNA sequences in gene promoter regions, plus the proteins that pack DNA. That lets them modulate transcriptional activity through DNA interaction. This may affect transcription factors, the switches that turn genes on and off [1]. In plain words, these peptides may influence gene expression at the genetic level. That is how they may help regulate gene expression and regulate protein synthesis in their own tissue, including structural proteins cells use every day.
There is brain specific work too. Researchers made short peptides based on a cortex peptide complex from calves. In lab models, those peptides bound to a histone protein linked to how DNA is packed. The authors proposed this may switch on a gene called FKBP1b. That gene helps neurons handle calcium, which matters for neuronal function as we age [3].
To be straight with you: this is lab and modeling research on related peptide preparations. It is not a trial of the Cerluten capsule itself. It shows the molecular mechanisms behind the idea, and why it takes weeks, not hours.
Tissue specificity: why A-5 goes to the brain
The core idea is tissue specificity. Each peptide complex seems to act most on the tissue it came from. Brain peptides favor neural tissue. Liver peptides favor the liver. The review on carrier proteins suggests this may explain the tissue specific action [2].
For Cerluten, the targets are brain cells in the brain cortex. That means neurons and glial cells. Neurons carry signals. Glial cells feed, protect, and clean up after them. Both need steady cellular metabolism to do their jobs.
What Cerluten may support*
- Normal cellular metabolism and protein synthesis in brain cells
- Cognitive function, focus, and memory as you get older
- Cognitive performance through long, demanding workdays
- Clear thinking when you deal with occasional brain fog
- Nervous system function under chronic stress
- Normal neuronal metabolism and stress adaptation
- The normal structure and function of brain tissue
- Brain health as part of a healthy aging routine
Changes build slowly over the 30 day course. That is why the standard Khavinson plan uses courses with breaks, not daily use forever.

How to take Cerluten

Dose: 1 to 2 capsules, 1 to 2 times a day, with meals. The most common plan is 2 capsules a day. That gives you 20 mg of the A-5 peptide complex daily.
Course length: 30 days. Then take a break.
How often: Most people repeat 2 or 3 times a year. Many start somewhere between age 35 and 45.
Storage: Keep it dry and dark, between 2°C and 25°C. Shelf life is 5 years from the production date.
| 20 capsules | 60 capsules | |
|---|---|---|
| Course length | 10 days | 30 days |
| Price | $55 | $135 |
| Cost per capsule | $2.75 | $2.25 |
| Best for | Trying it, or a short top up course | A full course at 18% less per capsule |
Who should skip it: Do not take Cerluten if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are under 18. Skip it if you react to any ingredient. The capsule also holds cellulose, beet sugar, sugar, lactose, and starch. If you have a health condition or take any medication, talk with your doctor first. That goes for all dietary supplements.
Why people pair Cerluten with Ventfort and Svetinorm
Your brain is about 2% of your body weight. It uses about 20% of your oxygen. So brain health depends on two other things: healthy blood vessels and good liver function.
That is the logic behind Khavinson's nervous system trio. Some call it a cardiovascular health protocol for the brain:
- Cerluten (A-5) to support brain function
- Ventfort (A-3) may support healthy blood vessel structure and circulation.* In aged rats, a vascular peptide bioregulator from the same research program was linked to a denser network of small blood vessels in the brain cortex [4].
- Svetinorm (A-7) may support normal liver function.* The liver filters the blood your brain runs on. More on that in our post on peptides and liver health.
We break down all three in our Khavinson nervous system stack guide.
Your brain also talks to the immune system and the endocrine system all day. That is why some people add Vladonix from our thymus health line to support immune function alongside Cerluten. A simple rule helps here: add one or two bioregulators at a time, not five at once.
Want the full trio without three bottles?
Neuro-3 Plus puts Cerluten, Ventfort, and Svetinorm in one capsule. It is 60 capsules, a full one month course. If you would rather dose each one on its own, grab the nervous system peptide bundle.
Cerluten vs quick hit focus products
| Cerluten (A-5) | Caffeine style focus products | |
|---|---|---|
| When you notice it | Over weeks | Within an hour |
| How long it lasts | Taken in courses, 2 or 3 times a year | A few hours, so you take it daily |
| What it works on | Normal gene activity and cellular functions in brain cells | Short term alertness |
| Crash | Not a stimulant | Common |
These two are not rivals. Plenty of our customers still drink their morning coffee. Cerluten is the long game.

How to spot real Cerluten
Check the panel, not the headline. Real Cerluten lists "peptide complex A-5" on the label. It shows the mg of active peptide per capsule. It names who made it and who sells it.
Be careful with sellers who give no ingredient list, no contact info, or a price far below the market. Those are signs of a knockoff or an underdosed capsule.
QI Supplements has sold Khavinson bioregulators since 2015. We ship from Washington State, so there is no overseas wait and no customs delay. See the full peptide bioregulator range or browse our brain and nervous system collection.
